Copy
Music from Your iPod to a New Computer
One of the down sides to iTunes
is the inability to copy music files from your iPod to your an empty iTunes library
on a new computer without using third party utilities. Apple probably did this
by design to keep iTunes customers from copying each other's music and adding
it to their own iTunes libraries. However, this can be a real problem for Apple
iPod users who have legitimately purchased music for their iPod from the Apple
store, and then suffered an unexpected hard drive crash or other data loss that
deleted their iTunes library on their PC.
If
your computer has crashed and you lost your iTunes library, DO NOT install iTunes
and attempt to partner your iPod with the iTunes on your new computer!!!!
CAUTION!!
If you do purchase a new computer, install your iTunes software on the hard drive
and attempt to partner your iPod to the iTunes program,
it will wipe out any
music that is stored on your iPod!
For example, if you change computers
and install iTunes and your iPod onto the new computer, iTunes is set by default
to replace your iPod library with the desktop library the first time they are
partnered. The software assumes that the database o the new computer is empty,
so it promptly wipes out any music on your iPod.
Luckily, there is a simple way to copy music from
your iPod to a new iTunes library on a new computer without any third
party software. Simply follow the links below to follow this 4-step
tutorial that will save you a ton of grief if you ever need to backup
your music from your iPod back to your computer.
